Just like a pill.

naamloos

Another nice new thing in the health and technology sector is the MedSnap ID app. Just as my previous post this is an app which helps you or other people take their pills. With this app you can identify pills with the help of the MedSnap Tray.

This is a device where you can lay your pills on and then take a picture with the MedSnap app following the instructions on screen. Then a menu shows up with the pills which lay on the tray. This way you can see whether you should still take the pills or not. You can also see the recommended dose and the function of the pills.

The app is free to download in the App Store, but the device costs $20 or $30. Not  a very high amount of money but still, if you are a doctor you don’t need one of those. For us “normal” people this thing can be very convenient I think. Especially for people who have to take a lot of different pills at the same time. This can become big in the future because people are searching for ways to leave out a doctor. With this app they can simply identify the pills themselves without the advice of a doctor.

So you see that every day there are new things which are invented that intend our lives a little easier, but maybe also a little more expensive? Who knows what the future will bring us. I’m excited and I’m happy that I get to see all that 😀

Take your pills Grandma!!

213964_2_600

This is a new invention which allows you to check whether your grandma has taken her medicine or not. This EasyPill uses medicine information via the cloud. This means that the device is connected to a doctor’s office so that he or she can see of the patient takes the right medicine and at which time. The EasyPill also can be linked to family members so that they can check their mother or father.

Also convenient is the reminder function. A digital clock is built in and also an alarm. When it’s time to take the pills an alarm goes. To prevent grandma from taking too much or too little pills there is also a function which weighs the amount of pills and decides whether the amount is good and according to the medical advice from the doctor. Very convenient and an important step forward in today’s healthcare. This way doctor appointments to check whether a person takes his or her medicine can be skipped. This can save money eventually.

So no lying from grandma anymore! The EasyPill – and family members and doctors –  is watching you! Does your grandma accept such a device in her home or is she still too old-fashioned? I know mine think they’re being supervised too much, but maybe they’re just too cocky.. But aren’t all old people a little? 🙂

I heart (pulse) you.

214356_1_600

Something new for smartphone and fitness addicts! With this new app you can see your heath pulse and oxygen levels. When you do a measure the app automatically sends the results to your computer so that you can keep track on your fitness levels. However, this is not for medical use. Keep in mind this is “just” an app and doesn’t give life depending results. But it’s perfectly fine for those people who want to keep track on their hearth pulse etc. and like to see them in a graphic overview.

In the future this can grow bigger and bigger because people are more and more concerned with their own health and are looking for ways to improve it. The important word is DIY – Do It Yourself. This will become very important the next few years. With this app they don’t have to go to a medical centre or sportsclub to measure their oxygen levels and heartbeat.

One downside however. The app itself is free to download in the App Store, but the device you put on your fingertip costs $150 which not every student can spend. But if you are willing and able to pay this amount and you are  fitness addict then it’s definitely worth buying!

Healthcare and technology.

vb_healthbeat2013_ad_300x250_generic01

The new event called Healthbeat 2013 was being held for the first time this year in a hotel in San Fransisco. This event is connected with the inventions made in Silicon Valley, just outside the city. Silicon Valley is known for its development and technology. This seems a rather strange combination, technology and health. But striking is that health these days is becoming more and more technical. Inventors keep thinking how they can improve healthcare with new technologies. This also means that Healthcare is undergoing  a big development and will continuing to do so in the next years.

In this event focusses on hospitals, physicians but also insurers and how they can improve their healthcare through technology. It also focusses on how smart patients are these days. People nowadays Google everything before they go to the doctor. This also has a major influence in Healthcare a la 2013. Who knows, maybe they will invent the time machine soon so that we can travel back in time when you weren’t ill…Or maybe travel forward to invent some magical medicine that can cure humanity… For now, we just keep waiting.

My last will

Compose your will. Something nobody wants to think of before they’re 65 at least, is now becoming normal. Now there is a new app which connects to your Facebook account where you can select pictures and link them to friends or family members. When you die, this person gets the item on the picture which is linked to him/her. Very handy indeed!

But I doubt if this is becoming a hit amongst young people. I can imagine doing it for fun but not in a serious way. But it is very convenient if you are serious with it. So maybe this is the future! Who knows. However, there is something about this app which doesn’t work. The things you leave behind have to be legitimate. This is not the case yet. for this to be legitimate the law has to be changed, but who knows if this will happen in the future. For little things, however, you can use this app. So look at the small movie and decide for yourself. Will you leave behind something via Facebook or will you stick to the old way?
