One does not simply… wear meggings.

What is it?

Meggings, leggings for men aren’t new. They were hot in the times of the baroque fashion and they were introduced in a fashion show from Givenchy in 2009. But now two men want to bring the megging from the catwalk and practical wear to the everyday street fashion. They started a company in December 2013 called Meggings Man Clothing.

Why is it cool?

The time has come that men are getting less critical about what is feminine and what is masculine – also the other way around of course. they want to wear meggings because these new ones are shaped to the physique of a men’s body. It also has a faux zipper and therefore looks like just a skinny jeans. Don’t forget, the skinny jeans was taboo once, and look where we are now; men with skinny jeans everywhere. Men have the need to feel masculine and with these new meggings from Meggings Man they can. And above all, comfort seems to be important more now than ever. And that’s exactly what meggings are. In the article someone mentions that his girlfriend loves them and are more soft than leggings she buys. Point must be made that meggings from Meggings Man are only for men because they are made to the masculine body.

Why has it future growth potential?

Again, look what happened to the skinny jeans! I think in the future men will eventually wear meggings. But they have to be suiting to the body and still feel masculine. Also a lot of rock stars wear them so it is becoming normal. The model of men’s pants is getting slimmer and fitting, so I see a great future in meggings!

Couture Sneakers

What is it?

Couture sneakers. Some weeks ago Chanel and Dior let their catwalk models walk on sneakers instead of the normal high heels. This lead to a lot of commotion.

Why is it cool?

It is cool because this is new and very ground-breaking. For years it was normal for models to walk on heels as high as possible to look feminine. In this you see that the difference between men and women is getting smaller. Sneakers are somewhat associated with masculinity rather than femininity. It was already acceptable to wear sneakers under a summer dress for casual wear but to see them on catwalk is something new. But this action shows that it’s okay to wear sneakers everyday and everywhere, as long as they’re haute couture of course, since a pair of Chanel couture sneakers are on sale for €3000. Though they made it clear that there will come an adaption so that the sneakers are available for prêt a porter fashion. Yay!

Why has it future growth potential?

It has future growth potential because femininity and masculinity are getting more together now than ever. There are new ways to show your femininity and sneakers can certainly be one of them.  Also comfortable wear is becoming very important, but so is the sports fashion. Sports clothes are getting more and more fashionable. So showing sneakers on the catwalk could be a major change in the fashion world. But also in the street image a lot can change. If you can buy look-a-like couture sneakers they will also appear in our normal street image.

Delicious Denim

 

What is it?

In December 2013, jewel brand Ti Sento Milano came up with a new collection which was something very different. They combined the classic jewels with the all time favorite: the jeans. They used real pieces of denim into their jewels and the result is beautiful.

Why is it cool?

The theory behind this collection was that jeans are always an option when you don’t know what to wear anymore. Ti Sento thought that jeans was always an option so they designed these jewels to combine with your everyday jeans. In the world of fast fashion and with fashion everywhere people want to go back to basics and just wear jeans, but still fashionable. You can see this in the other coolhunt from the JoggJeans. It’s a bit of a  reaction against all the over-fashionable  clothes these days. Gone is the bling-bling and back is the basic jeans! With these jewels women can still have the feeling that they have something with bling-bling but that in combination with denim makes it new.

Why has it future growth potential?

The idea of back to basics is very characteristic for this era and will continue to grow over the years. There are a lot of people who have an affection for everything that is over the top. People will continue wearing more practical and simple clothes but also accessories I think. Of course this ring will be outdated in a few years, but the need behind it will not.

What is it?

Diesel invented the Joggjeans. This is sort of a jogging pants but which looks like a normal jeans. The fabric is very smooth and therefore it has the feeling of a jogging pants.

Why is it cool?

This pants is very comfy, and today people want to have some alone time every now and then. It was already normal amongst women but now men also can have some alone time and still look fashionabl  (though these jeans are also available for women). Also, clothes have to be comfy and not so much tight and not easy to move in. More shapeless clothes have been spotted, clothes wich are easy to wear. A translation from this is the joggjeans. It also joines in on the success of the onesie. Only the onesie is a little more awkward to wear out on the streets. This onesie also became popular amongst men AND women. So basically unisex relax clothing is hot right now. In contrast, the Joggjeans still looks like a normal jeans and is more suitable for somewhat formal occasions.

Why has it future growth potential?

In the future people want to have more and more time alone, because of all the technology around them, so the Joggjeans maybe is the first step to comfortable clothes in combination with easy wear. The fact that this jeans is for both men and women is remarkable because they look exactly the same. You also see the difference between men and women getting smaller because the jeans for women looks a little manly because of the loose fit and the baggy look. So if the boyfriend jeans and the onesie was a success then this is going to be even bigger, since it combines the two of them with our biggest hobby: relaxing.

What is it?

Selfiegram is an app which allows you to post pictures of yourself and place them in different forms and with different filters. You can share your pics with other people. It was released on January 3rd 2014.

Why is it cool?

People want to show themselves to the world and how different or unique they are. Joining in from Instagram, selfiegram lets you post pictures only of you. This is part of the narcistic society. People are vain and want to show the world who they are. This also fits into the trend of ‘the age of image.’ Your image is important but also the other meaning of image in the form of a picture of yourself. This applies to men as well as women.

Why has it future growth potential?

The word selfie comes from the year 2013 and therefore it is not very old. I think this trend will continue throughout the years. Instagram is somewhat old already but this could be the solution to apps equal to Instagram.
